Pittsburgh is Gotham for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

Movie News

While Chicago may have lent its distinct urban identity to Christopher Nolan’s previous foray into the world of Batman, according to Deadline, he will finish up the trilogy in steel country. “The Dark Knight Rises” is set to be filmed in Pittsburgh, PA this summer.

We New Yorkers are still a little bitter that the filmmakers have decided to forget that Gotham is New York. Come on, there’s not much difference between Mayor Bloomberg and The Penguin, right?

Director Christopher Nolan has said, “Pittsburgh is a beautiful city. We have been able to find everything we were looking for here, and I am excited to spend the summer in Pittsburgh with our final installment of Batman.”

“The Dark Knight” was easily one of the most successful films of all time, both in terms of box-office revenue and living up to its own hype, and fans are expecting everyone involved with this project to deliver a trilogy-capper that will exceed their wildest dreams. Overall, Nolan seems to be generally improving as a filmmaker—impressive, considering that he started out stronger than most—so it’s not beyond reason to assume that this movie will be the strongest of the three.

However, let’s not forget that upon its initial release, many critics compared “The Dark Knight” to “The Godfather Part II.” Let’s cross our fingers and hope that when “The Dark Knight Rises” finally hits theaters in 2012, it bears little resemblance to “The Godfather Part III.”

That’s the kind of disappointment that none of us need.
