"Tommy Lee Jones won an Emmy for his portrayal of condemned killer Gary Gilmore, who became the first person executed in the U.S. in 10 years when he was shot by a Utah firing squad in 1977, in this acclaimed biodrama. Based on Norman Mailer's book on Gilmore's trial and fight for his death sentence to be carried out, the film also stars Eli Wallach, Christine Lahti, and Rosanna Arquette as Gilmore's teenage lover."

I've always wanted to see this, but it was made before I was born.
Tommy Lee Jones is just a natural in his craft, and he pulls it off this really difficult character, with style, ease, and unbearable grace.
It's a rare feat for a made-for-TV film to be this good.
