Today's comment:
Klaatu: I am leaving soon, and you will forgive me if I speak bluntly. The universe grows smaller every day, and the threat of aggression by any group, anywhere, can no longer be tolerated.
December 2, 2008 at 7:00 AM
I didn't know a remake is in the works. Hmmmm, I will have to wait and see.
December 2, 2008 at 9:05 PM
Tagline: 12.12.08 is the Day the Earth Stood Still.
Starring Keanu Reaves as Klaatu with Jon Hamm as Dr. Ranier and Jennifer Connelly as Helen.
December 3, 2008 at 6:52 AM
Back again for another try.
December 3, 2008 at 9:17 PM
Michael Rennie was ill the Day the Earth Stood Still.
I'd love this classic!
December 3, 2008 at 9:32 PM
"Klaatu barada nikto" is what you would say to Gort if you wanted to stop him from destroying the world.
Presumably it means something like "Klaatu says, 'Kindly don't destroy the world'."
December 3, 2008 at 10:00 PM
I wonder if the new one will hold to this one.
countryrebelh@aol.com
December 4, 2008 at 6:57 AM

countryrebelh@aol.com
December 7, 2008 at 7:27 AM
Hope I win.
December 7, 2008 at 9:56 AM
This is a great movie. It's definitely more of a psychological movie than those of today in which CGI has overtaken acting and drama.
December 7, 2008 at 4:27 PM
The Day the Earth Stood Still was released on Sept. 28, 1951.
Its stars included Francis Bavier (Aunt Bee) as Mrs. Barley; and the great Lock Martin as Gort.
December 7, 2008 at 6:38 PM
One of the most influential films of its time. It is more of a psychological film that is disguised as a sci-fi movie much in the same vain as Alien Nation.
December 7, 2008 at 7:15 PM
win win win
December 7, 2008 at 9:00 PM
This is really my kind of movie. Would love to win it.
December 7, 2008 at 11:57 PM

This is my husbands favorite SIFI movie. Can't wait to see the remake.
December 8, 2008 at 10:08 PM

I've seen commercials for the new "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and it's filled with all sorts of SGI effects. I guess I remember a completely different movie!
December 9, 2008 at 7:39 AM

Thu Dec 11 @ 8PM | 7C

December 10, 2008 at 6:55 AM
The music is played on a theremin and is pretty creepy!
December 11, 2008 at 7:43 AM
The Director of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (1951), Robert Wise, went on to direct such notable films as "West Side Story" and "The Sound of Music".
December 11, 2008 at 5:43 PM
I love to have this in my collection of DVD's
countryrebelh@aol.com
December 11, 2008 at 7:11 PM
I would love to add this to my DVD collection of vintage SciFi movies.
December 12, 2008 at 6:56 AM
There is something to say about those black and white cold-war era movies.
December 12, 2008 at 7:38 AM
TODAY is 12/12/08:
"The Day the Earth Stood Still" (2008)
December 12, 2008 at 9:19 PM
I hope the remake is as good as this one was
countryrebelh@aol.com
December 13, 2008 at 7:29 AM
Sounds like the reviews are mixed for TDTESS (2008). Unfortunately, I'm disappointed and think I'll stick with something more substantial like "Milk".
December 13, 2008 at 8:43 AM
Great cast and a great movie!
December 13, 2008 at 8:46 PM
My son really wants me to win this for him
countryrebelh@aol.com
December 14, 2008 at 9:13 AM
So, what do you think about Keanu Reeves playing Klaatu and John Cleese doing Sam Jaffe's part? I think the only thing the old and the new movie will have in common is the title.
December 14, 2008 at 3:28 PM
In 1951, Bernard Herrmann, film's greatest composer, scored The Day the Earth Stood Still. The music featured two theremins, the first widespread electronic instrument, and to this day, its sound conjures images of robots, spaceships, and aliens.
December 15, 2008 at 6:16 AM
Thanks for the great reviews and contests!
December 15, 2008 at 1:12 PM

countryrebelh@aol.com
December 16, 2008 at 6:48 AM
Well, it looks like the new version was a hit at the box offices. I want to see it, but hopefully it won't be as bad as the "War of the Worlds" remake.
December 16, 2008 at 7:24 AM
Alternate Titles for TDTESS (1951):
"Farewell to the Master" and
"Journey to the World"
December 17, 2008 at 7:04 AM

Nothing informative today;
Just leaving another comment for today's entry.
December 18, 2008 at 6:59 AM
I would like to see the original movie and compare it with the new one to see what they have in common besides the title.

The screenplay for "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (1951) was written by Edmund H. North based on the story by Harry Bates whose most famous short story is "Farewell to the Master".
Edmund H. North shared an Academy Award for "Best Original Screenplay" with Francis Ford Coppola in 1970 for their script for "Patton".

I would love to win this on DVD. My dad has raved about this movie especially since the remake recently came out and I would love to be able to finally see it. This is a great giveaway and I really hope I win. Thanks.
