Bill Paxton and "Twister 2"...in 3-D
Bill Paxton, currently starring in the new season of the HBO series “Big Love,” tells Premium Hollywood that he recently pitched the idea of a sequel to the 1996 hit “Twister” to mega-producer Kathleen Kennedy (whose recent credits include “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” “Ponyo,” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”).
Apparently, Paxton was inspired by a recent trip to the Ozarks during which he did some research on a famous tornado that ripped through southern Illinois in 1925. Having pored over photos of the devastation, Paxton remarked that the landscape “literally looked like Hiroshima.” Perhaps this level of mayhem is what prompted Paxton’s next idea--doing the sequel in 3-D. Paxton told Will Harris that mixing tornado action with eye-popping technology “could obviously be pretty amazing.”
Those who have been languishing in front of reruns of “Storm Chasers” and the like for the past 15 years will no doubt be thrilled at the prospect of airborne cows in 3-D. But Paxton also stated that his vision for the sequel is “a darker version of the first one,” focusing more on the actual story of the 1925 tornado. It remains to be seen whether the project will move forward, but it seems certain that, in any event, at least one unsuspecting farm animal will be involved.
