"Despicable Me" to Include Original Music by Pharell WIlliams
Having found success as a producer, solo artist, a member of The Neptunes and even as a fashion designer, Pharrell Williams is now going to try his hand at writing original music for the 3D CGI cartoon, "Despicable Me." The thre-time Grammy Award winner, Pharrell, will be writing alongside Oscar winners Hans Zimmer and Heitor Pereira.
"Despicable Me "stars the voices of Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Will Arnett and many more. It is set to be released in theaters on July 9, 2010. The plot of the film is built around the world's #2 supervillain, Gru (voiced by Carrell), who is attempting to outdo his nemesis, the world's #1 villain, Vector (voiced by Jason Segel), by plotting to steal the moon.
Pharrell William has already written the title track for "Despicable Me," which can be listened to below. Williams also will be writing some of the film's orchestral score and other songs that will be incorporated into the film.
About his participation in the movie, Williams said, “I love cartoons and animation, and I’ve never seen such incredible 3-D CGI. To score "Despicable Me" along with Hans and Heitor, and write original songs for the film, is a dream come true.”
