Sony to Release 3D Blu-Ray Content This Summer
If the home viewing experience of the past decade was defined by the introduction of high-definition TVs and Blu-ray, companies this decade appear to already be stepping it up a notch with brand new 3D home entertainment.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced their intention of releasing 3D content on Blu-ray discs worldwide this coming summer, with the release to be simultaneous with the debut of their upcoming 3D hardware, which includes 3D compatible BRAVIA LCD TVs and Blu-ray disc players.
SPHE plans on releasing more information on their plans with 3D this spring, but they've stated the first planned Blu-ray 3D release will be the animated film "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs."
For those still unacquainted with high-definition in their homes, this may not mean much, but for those out there who put a lot of cash into their home entertainment, this will be the next big step. 3D entertainment is rising quickly, and the introduction of 3D-equipped televisions and media players is just the beginning. Already announced is an entire ESPN subscription channel dedicated to 3D technology, and more channels (especially movie channels) are sure to follow suit.
So, what do you think? Is this the next step in home entertainment, or will many people not buy into the 3D hype?

I really do believe this is the next step in home entertainment. I still have a 32 inch Sony tube television. Once I have enough money to upgrade, I'm going to seriously look into buying a 3rd compatible Bravia lcd tv.
