MTV Wants a Piece of "Dawn of the Dead"

Whether MTV knows it or not, they’ve been a major player in the horror genre for quite some time. Reality television shows such as “Jersey Shore,” “The Hills” and “Parental Control” can be some of the scariest viewing on cable television today. Apparently, MTV has taken a literal approach to their stigma of having horrific programming. Reportedly, they are planning to adapt George A. Romero’s “Dawn of the Dead” into a television series.

Literally nothing about “Dawn of the Dead” is remotely reminiscent of MTV. Their motion picture production side, MTV Films, hasn’t even been associated with any horror films, save for “Dance Flick,” which was terrifying.

At this time, there’s not too much information in regards to the news. The MTV spin-off will supposedly combine Romero’s vision of methodical, slow-moving zombies with Zack Snyder’s idea of the fast-moving, manic undead.

Romero’s 1978 horror classic was thought to be untouchable. When Snyder announced in 2004 that he was planning an adaptation, there was uproar from the horror community. However, Snyder surprised many with his gritty, unrelenting remake. Now MTV thinks they can cash in. Stay tuned, as more details will be released soon. For now, be very, very afraid--unless of course MTV is planning to somehow combine “Dawn of the Dead” with “Jersey Shore.” That could be amazing.
