Jennifer Lawrence is a pretty big deal right now. After starring in the acclaimed, if under-seen “Winter’s Bone,” she skyrocketed from obscurity to stardom overnight, and is sure to go on to bigger (and possibly even better) projects in the future.
Case in point: Deadline is reporting that the young actress may be in talks to take on the lead role in “The Hunger Games,” based on the popular young adult series of novels. Lawrence would play Katniss Everdeen, a part that had previously been associated with Hailee Steinfeld and Abigail Breslin.
At twenty years old, Lawrence may not be quite young enough to totally convince us as a sixteen year old, but to be fair, Hollywood tends to cast older actors as teenagers anyway, so this isn’t anything new.
As much as we’d like to see Hailee Steinfeld acquire a major part like this one, Lawrence has displayed immense talent as an actress, and she also deserve an opportunity to grab a role that will assure her popularity for years to come. “The Hunger Games,” so long as director Gary Ross handles it skillfully, is sure to be a major franchise, and whoever is involved as the lead will be a familiar face in the world of entertainment. It’s miles away from “Winter’s Bone,” but it is still a strong female part that deserves an actress who will do it justice.
