Catherine Zeta-Jones Joins ‘Rock of Ages’
Movie News

Where has Catherine Zeta-Jones been these days? While she was once a major presence in the world of movies, since getting hitched to husband Michael Douglas, her star seems to have been slowly declining.
However, that has nothing to do with lack of talent, and with Deadline now reporting that she’s been cast in the upcoming cinematic adaptation of “Rock of Ages,” we’re guessing she’ll be as strong on screen as ever.
The actress won’t be taking on a role familiar to fans of the musical; instead she’ll be playing a character conceived of strictly for this film, the conservative wife of L.A.’s mayor who thinks that rock ‘n roll is the devil’s music. Sounds familiar.
With Tom Cruise also set to appear in the film, this movie might not exactly be brimming with young talent (in Hollywood, “young” is a relative term), but it has some of our old favorites, and seeing as it is a film based around the kind of music that we’re embarrassed to admit we still enjoy, it makes plenty of sense to grab these stars. Somehow, it just wouldn’t feel right seeing Zac Efron pretend to like Bon Jovi or Whitesnake.
Thankfully, Catherine Zeta-Jones will still get to belt out a couple of tunes along with the rest of the cast. Having appeared in the critically acclaimed “Chicago,” she’s no stranger to the music genre, and has the skill to pull off this kind of role with class and confidence.
After a brief absence from movies, we’re looking forward to seeing what Catherine Zeta-Jones has in store for us. She is now the best reason to check out this film once it hits theaters.
