Flight of the Conchords' Bret McKenzie Cast in The Hobbit
Movie News

Earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Bret McKenzie of comedy duo Flight of the Conchords had been cast in the upcoming The Hobbit film. Some of you may already be aware that the Kiwi has some experience with the Tolkien franchise already thanks to an appearance in The Fellowship of the Ring as an elf. That appearance was the epitome of brief, but it was apparently enough to prompt fans to name McKenzie's character Figwit, an acronym for "Frodo is Great...Who Is That??." Yes, you read that right- Lord of the Rings fans were enamored with McKenzie's silent character so much, they gave him a ridiculous name and even created a website for him, the aptly named www.figwitlives.net.
Peter Jackson himself found the fan obsession with Figwit so interesting that he brought the character back for the final film, The Return of the King. Which begs the question--has McKenzie been cast as Figwit once more? Perhaps even a young Figwit? Or is it just that the comedian's newly increased profile makes him a little more appealing to producers?
