Keira Knightley Snatches Lead in "My Fair Lady" Remake

By our guest blogger, Rob StammittiIn a move that has been expected for a little over a year, Keira Knightley has been chosen over fellow actress Scarlett Johansson for the lead role of Eliza Doolittle in the upcoming remake of the classic My Fair Lady.

I, for one, think this is a fantastic casting choice. Joe Wright, who has twice worked with Knightley (in Pride & Prejudice and Atonement, the latter of which earned him an Oscar nomination), is helming the film, and he's proven himself adept at directing British drama. Knightley has also shown a great deal of range with her roles in films as varied as Tony Scott's crime film Domino and British ensemble film Love Actually (in which she showed her comedic side, appropriate for such a role as Eliza Doolittle).

I agree. She's crazy hot. But she's also an excellent actress. Kudos to her for landing the job.

Noticeably absent from this report is whether anyone mentioned can sing. It seems to me that, if one is going to remake one of the greatest musicals of all time, having a decent singing voice would be an important factor in casting.
Oh, wait a minute...Audrey Hepburn, Rex Harrison...never mind. Proceed.
