“The Eclipse” Movie Trailer Review
“The Eclipse”

“The Eclipse,” directed by Conor McPherson, tells the story of a man (Ciaran Hinds, who won a Best Actor prize for his performance at Tribeca) who is caught in a cycle of grief after the death of his wife. Two years after losing her, however, he has begun to see what he thinks are ghosts, and he’s terrified that either his house is haunted or that he’s losing his mind.
After meeting a novelist (Iben Hjejle) who specializes in the supernatural, Hinds’ character thinks he finally has found someone who will understand what he is experiencing--but the writer has problems of her own, and as the two of them become more deeply involved it becomes clear that their search for the supernatural truth is going to get someone hurt.
The trailer shows lots of beautiful shots of the seaside village where the story is set--the light is often soft and muted, giving everything a slightly spooky, storybook quality. There are no shorts that actually show ghosts or any other supernatural beings (except one which seems to be more of a flashback) and that’s good--if the film itself can maintain suspense without giving in and actually displaying any of its ghosts and ghouls, it will probably turn out to be a superb piece of work.
Hinds always does an excellent job--look forward to seeing him as Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth in the upcoming “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” films.
