Sequel to “The Descent” Goes Straight to DVD April 27

“The Descent,” directed by Neil Marshall, was one of the biggest horror hits of the past few years--so what could better do it justice than a straight-to-DVD sequel?

Actually, the film--imaginatively titled “The Descent Part 2”--was released in theaters in Britain at the end of 2009. We can only guess why its distributors decided to bypass a theatrical release in the U.S., but Marshall’s conspicuous absence as director has to be part of it. Jon Harris, the sequel’s director, has edited a number of high-profile films but this is his first time sitting in the director’s chair.

CinemaBlend reports that “The Descent Part 2” will be available on DVD beginning April 27, 2010. Shauna McDonald returns to star as Sarah, who is forced by police to go back into the hellish Appalachian caves where all her friends were torn apart in the original.
