"2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams" Movie Trailer Review
Movie Trailer Review

Tim Sullivan's "2001 Maniacs" was an entertaining remake that kept its sense of humor while bombarding the audience with gore. It had followed in the footsteps of the original ("Two Thousand Maniacs") while carving its own niche in the current DVD horror market. A sequel is now on the horizon: "2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams."
From the trailer, it looks as if the sequel will continue the traditions of the previous installments. No sense of real plot or character is given in the 2-minute long trailer. Instead, it gives a feel for how the movie will play out: over-the-top violence, smatterings of sex and dark humor.
The great Robert Englund is not reprising his role as Mayor Buckman in "Field of Screams." Luckily, the talented Bill Moseley will be taking up the role. Though Englund's absence is perhaps the most noticeable, he is not the only one who is not returning. From the trailer, it appears that only Lin Shaye (as Granny) is coming back for the sequel.
For the fans of the other movies, "Field of Screams" will surely end up being at least mildly entertaining. The main problem for the newest entry is familiarity. While the formula has proved to work, one can only wonder how far the premise can be stretched. "Field of Screams" in running the risk of being just "more of the same."
However, it looks as if the movie will be at least worth a single viewing. Fans of the other movies (and of violence and dark humor in general) can expect "2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams" to be released on July 20, 2010.
