Geoffrey Rush to Voice Character in “The Green Lantern”

Gottta give Geoffrey Rush some credit. While he’s a fantastic dramatic actor who truly deserves the praise he’s been getting since his memorable performance in “The King’s Speech,” he’s also the kind of actor who doesn’t pretend to be above genre films. As impressive as he was playing a speech therapist, he was equally entertaining as a pirate in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films.

So, while some may find it strange that, according to The Hollywood Reporter, he’s been recruited to provide the voice for a character from the film “The Green Lantern,” we can’t help but applaud the actor for following up what may be the most significant dramatic performance of his career with a role that will, in all likelihood, be just plain fun (although we’ll admit that the trailer for this film makes us wonder if it will be one of the better superhero movies in recent years, or if it will, like “Daredevil,” be something which we just try to forget).

Rush will play Tomar-Re, an alien scientist-turned-intergalactic police officer. He will train the Ryan Reynolds character, perhaps serving as some sort of mentor figure.

Well, while it is a little late to be adding voice roles to this film—it’s scheduled to be released June 17—we’re sure that Rush can handle the responsibility. Like most skilled actors, he probably labors over his craft, but to be honest, he delivers performances with such confidence that he makes it look easy.
